This has been a strange year, to say the least. In 2020, we experienced a lot of life-changing circumstances that forced us to take a different look at our homes, and the way we live our lives. Many people moved in with relatives, left big cities, and just generally decided to makeover their home to make it more comfortable. After all, with us spending so much more time at home, it only makes sense that we would put more time and money into making it a great place to live. Going into 2021, we’re going to experience much of the same things that defined our lives in 2020. So here are some of the trends you can expect to see going forward.
30. Multi-Use Spaces
For the past few years, I’ve heard people say that they have one or more rooms in their house that they barely use. They might have a formal living room or dining room that remains virtually untouched for months at a time. But in 2020, most people had to deal with converting their living space to accommodate working from home. This means having Zoom calls in your dining room, putting desks in your kid’s bedrooms, as well as potentially moving to a new place.
We’re seeing a lot of solutions to privacy issues, like room dividers, desks with built-in shelving, and Ikea hacks on how to make a faux wall out of the bookcase. Some people are beginning to realize that they actually prefer to skip their commute and work from home. It’s very likely that we’re going to continue to see this into 2021 and beyond.
